Contaminant Identification of a Pharmaceutical
A large pharmaceutical manufacturer needed help identifying the cause of tiny black particles that were discovered during equipment maintenance. Microbac’s Hauser Division used FTIR and SEM analyses to identify the black particles as small pieces of silicon-based material. This identification allowed Microbac to trace the particles back to an O-ring that was breaking down during the process.

Verification of Process Equipment
Microbac’s Hauser Division was approached by a pharmaceutical manufacturer that wanted to verify the composition of its process equipment. The laboratory used SEM-EDS to identify the metal composition and verify that it was stainless steel 316.

Failure Analysis / Material Selection
A hearing aid manufacturer needed assistance in determining why the solder joints in a few of its hearing aids were cracking prematurely. Microbac’s Hauser Division utilized microscopy, cross-sectioning and SEM-EDS to analyze the solder material and the conductor. Hauser’s scientists were able to determine that the solder and the conductor material were somewhat incompatible, causing the joint to fail prematurely.
