FUNGAL RESISTANCE TESTING

Why Is Fungal Resistance Testing Important?

The effects of fungal growth on building materials, paper, and textiles can significantly reduce the durability and lifespan of everyday items. In industry, fungal blooms can lead to costly interruptions and recalls while simultaneously posing a health and safety concern. Aspergillus species pose a significant threat to immunocompromised individuals and due to the ubiquitous nature of the organisms, it is common to see fungal lung infections develop alongside other severe illness. Respiratory aspergillus infections can lead to invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) which is a severe fungal infection with a high mortality rate.

Microbac Laboratories, Inc. is prepared to analyze your antifungal performance standards and assist you in developing products with superior fungal resistance. Microbac’s Boulder laboratory maintains pure fungal cultures and performs several of the industry leading analyses to assess the antifungal properties of a variety of materials. Antifungal performance validations are valuable to customers who develop, sell, and use products which may be subject to constant attack by fungi.

How your product is tested?

Microbac uses a variety of methods to suit your individual Fungal Resistance needs.

After establishing the composition of your samples, our Scientists will propagate a catered cocktail of organisms designed to degrade the materials in question.

Culturing the molds takes 3 to 4 weeks. After the molds have matured, the spores of each individual species are harvested and quantified. The concentration of each of these spore suspensions is then standardized so there are equal quantities of mold spores from each organism.

Once the suspensions are standardized, they will be administered to your samples via aerosolization or direct inoculation. From there, your samples are incubated at high humidity.

Method incubation times vary from 2-4 weeks from initiation.

Upon completion, you will be provided with a report with color photographs detailing the status of your sample's fungal resistance.
